Senior Accountant

Responsibilities

  • Prepare monthly journal entries and accruals as required
  • Prepare, analyze, and report on quarterly agency allocations for direct and indirect expenses
  • Review and ensure accurate coding to the General ledger
  • Manage and maintain the General Ledger account structures
  • Manage and reconcile subsidiary ledgers
  • Manage fixed assets
  • Track, reconcile, and provide monthly reporting on Restricted Revenues
  • Prepare a timely, efficient, and accurate Monthly Close
  • Maintain accounting records in a state of audit readiness including periodic account reconciliations. Prepare documentation for and respond to requests from external auditors
  • Assume other accounting tasks as assigned, including numerous hands-on accountant and bookkeeper level responsibilities
  • Back up other bookkeepers as required
  • Assume office management responsibilities
Qualifications
  • A Bachelor's degree in accounting, or equivalent experience and training
  • 5 years of accounting manager or supervisor experience, preferably including significant nonprofit experience.
  • Knowledge of and experience with accounting principles, fund accounting, and GAAP
  • Oriented towards process improvement, with outstanding organization skills, project management, communication, and follow-through; proven ability to multi-task under pressure
  • Excellent attention to detail, accuracy, and procedure
  • Proven good business judgment with a proactive approach to problem-solving
  • Advanced Excel user familiar with multi-tab spreadsheets, pivot tables, and complex formulas
  • Highly proficient with accounting software. Good interpersonal, organizational, and communication skills, supervisory experience and proficiency desirable
