Senior Accountant
Responsibilities
- Prepare monthly journal entries and accruals as required
- Prepare, analyze, and report on quarterly agency allocations for direct and indirect expenses
- Review and ensure accurate coding to the General ledger
- Manage and maintain the General Ledger account structures
- Manage and reconcile subsidiary ledgers
- Manage fixed assets
- Track, reconcile, and provide monthly reporting on Restricted Revenues
- Prepare a timely, efficient, and accurate Monthly Close
- Maintain accounting records in a state of audit readiness including periodic account reconciliations. Prepare documentation for and respond to requests from external auditors
- Assume other accounting tasks as assigned, including numerous hands-on accountant and bookkeeper level responsibilities
- Back up other bookkeepers as required
- Assume office management responsibilities
Qualifications
- A Bachelor's degree in accounting, or equivalent experience and training
- 5 years of accounting manager or supervisor experience, preferably including significant nonprofit experience.
- Knowledge of and experience with accounting principles, fund accounting, and GAAP
- Oriented towards process improvement, with outstanding organization skills, project management, communication, and follow-through; proven ability to multi-task under pressure
- Excellent attention to detail, accuracy, and procedure
- Proven good business judgment with a proactive approach to problem-solving
- Advanced Excel user familiar with multi-tab spreadsheets, pivot tables, and complex formulas
- Highly proficient with accounting software. Good interpersonal, organizational, and communication skills, supervisory experience and proficiency desirable
